Campaign on 25th Anniversary of Child Rights Day

A “Quiz Program” on Child Rights Day was conducted in ten schools and prizes were distributed to the three winners in each school. “Orientation to Create Awareness on Child Rights” was given to the children participated in the program. “Hand Bills Distribution” in the procession started from the ten schools to create community.

1,147 children from the age group of 8 to 17 and 115 youth were involved in the program. The activity enabled the school children in the target schools to get more information about child rights. It strengthened the collectiveness of the children to address child right violations. The school management, particularly the teachers, is very positive of conducting such programs in their schools. This program has given HEAL an opportunity to strengthen our credibility with the schools.

The village community is also very positive of the program. The parents felt happy that there is a program that will protect their children against child right violations. The local Panchayat leaders participated in the program. This will strengthen the Panchayat level Child Protection Committee. The participation of youth – former CAC students – in the program is a positive outcome to ensure Child Rights.

The key participants – the children – felt that the Quiz Program enabled them to widen their knowledge base of child rights. They read materials on child rights provided by HEAL to equip them with skills to participate in the quiz program. The topics were also relevant as they showed concern for their rights. The school teachers are also very positive of the program since the local community and local governing bodies has developed faith in the schools that the rights of their children are safe in the schools. The local Panchayat leaders felt that the Panchayat level Child Protection Committees would be strengthened through such programs.

One important outcome is that the children are well aware of the Child Help Line 1098. They are now confident that they could contact the Child Help Line in case there is child right violation in their area. The program has strengthened our relationship with the school managements. We are able to create wider level awareness among the local community and school children on the rights of the children. The local Panchayats have requested the support of HEAL to strengthen the Panchayat level Child Protection Committees. The youth assured support to the child right protection activities.

The school managements as well as the teachers are very positive of the program in the sense that it has improved the image of the schools in the community. Hence they wanted more such child protection centric programs in the schools. In three schools, the prizes distributed during the school annual day. In all the schools, this event was recorded in their annual report.
